What is the roadmap for Entrepreneurship and Technology Commercialization in Portugal?
The 2012 UTEN Annual Conference will gather researchers and students, entrepreneurs and investors, industry and policy makers in order to discuss the future of Portugal in these two fields.
This year’s event will have a panel of excellence, including experts from the United States of America and Europe, debating four major themes: the entrepreneurial journey; internationalization of start-ups in the United States; the entrepreneurial economy and technology transfer networks.
Confirmed names for the event include entrepreneurs, such as Gary Hoover (Founder of Bookstop, Hoover’s Inc., TravelFest, and Story Stores), Vinit Nijhawan (Taral Networks, Kinetic Computer, Payload Systems), Laura A. Schoppe (President of Fuentek, LLC and elected one of the top 25 businesswomen in the Research Triangle Park region of North Carolina), William Stevens (Europe Unlimited and one of the promoters of EASDAQ, later Nasdaq Europe) as well as the Portuguese entrepreneurs, Helena Vieira ( Bioalvo), João Barros (Veniam) and Pedro Pissarra (Biotecnol).
UTEN conference will further gather representatives from the Innovation and Technology Transfer of Nuevo Leon, Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, the IC2 Institute, The University of Texas at Austin and UNU-MERIT, to share their experiences on how to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and economic growth for a region.
The power of collaborative networks to promote technology transfer and entrepreneurship will be discussed by top level representatives of RedEmprendia, the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and ProTon Europe.
Leonor Parreira, Secretary of State of Science Technology and Higher Education, Carlos Oliveira, Secretary of State of Entrepreneurship, Competitiveness and Innovation, João Guerreiro, Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities, Rector of the University of Algarve and Miguel Seabra, President of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, have already confirmed their presence in the conference.
