Self-facilitating – the entrepreneurs of the network govern and control the network and they decide what learning is of value for the network.
Give an overview of the practice
The establishment of the networks created a platform or knowledge sharing space in which entrepreneurial orientated SME owners can come together and self learn. The self learning process is twofold; first the individual entrepreneur has their own level of tacit knowledge to bring to the group and second, the entrepreneur is exposed to the tacit knowledge held by the subsequent network members. In effect each network can act as a board of directors for each network participant’s individual business at no financial cost. The obligation for involvement in the network is the participant’s time and their own contribution of knowledge and experience. The purpose of the learning networks is to promote knowledge transfer between owner/managers of SME and Micro Enterprises.
