What is the aim/objective?
The University of Porto created a cooperation platform on the internet which enables diverse information about scientific skills and other R&D resources available at U.Porto. This platform intends to create an R&D market based on the initiative of interested partner entities, as well as researchers and the industry.
Give an overview of the practice
The share of information and the inter-knowledge and collaboration between peer, from the same research area, or from the same industrial area, is a hard work to reach, especially due to the high number and diversity of interests and interested parties involved. Therefore, the UPoint enables, in an easy way, to know about skills, equipment, projects and results, but also to meet together with researchers, companies and other stakeholders. The network assumes itself as the best option, in the scope of R&D activities, to develop new scientific, technological and entrepreneurial cooperation. The UPoint network works in a similar way as the more famous social networks (LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook). The easiness of integration and the adaptability to various organizational situations enable to adjust the existing platform to other needs and stakeholders, via registration to the platform or via the creation of a proper area, managed by the project unit, department, organization or region. The Upoint was developed from the early beginning to be adaptable to multiple uses and ways of acting, according to needed specificities of the users (researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, nonprofit institutions, universities, companies, etc.).
