Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)

Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is a university-level institution in the South-East of Ireland with over 10,000 students and 1,000 staff. WIT offers tuition and research programmes in various areas from Higher Certificate to Degree to PhD.

WIT’s ArcLabs Research & Innovation Centre, presenting WIT in the KTForce project, is an institution combining the activities of one of Ireland’s leading research groups with WIT’s entrepreneurship programs and a business incubation facility.

Within a broad research portfolio, WIT has three major Research Centres of Excellence which are specifically focused on the commercialisation of research in: telecommunications systems and software; pharmaceutical & molecular biotechnology; and eco-innovation. Creating spin-off companies and developing licensing opportunities that in turn create jobs and help to strengthen the regional and national economies are key strategic objectives of the Institute. WIT has developed a successful model for creating spin-off companies and for licensing technologies which it aims to share, improve and adapt through the collaboration with the project partners.
